LYON LEADS
LYON LEADS
A group known as the LYON Board used to be elected at each LYON Assembly, and members spent the year between LYON Assemblies growing as leaders and acting
on what they believed God was calling them to do as a Board.
This year something NEW is in the works. Instead of electing a LYON Board, there is now a program called LYON LEADS that will serve as a leadership development opportunity for youth in grades 9-12 in the Nebraska Synod. Youth who want to attend LYON LEADS could be LYON Assembly participants, but that is not a prerequisite.
LYON LEADS stands for Lutheran Youth Of Nebraska Living Everyday As Disciples and Servants. A young person is eligible for LYON LEADS if he or she was in grade 9-12 in Fall 2011. To be considered for this program, the person needs to do these two steps by February 17, 2012 (please note that this is a different deadline than originally shared):
- Complete and submit an application.
- Ask two adults to submit recommendation forms. At least one should be from a member of the youth’s mission center. Neither adult should be related to the youth.
If the applicant is accepted for LYON LEADS, he or she will take part in a required two-day retreat on March 17-18, 2012 and will have the opportunity to participate in two optional follow-up gatherings, one on June 10, 2012 and the other on September 16, 2012.
What will happen at the LYON LEADS retreat?
- Team building
- Workshops on topics like listening, time management, delegation, personality types, diversity and hospitality
- Serving
- Worshipping
- Reflecting and listening for God
- Hearing from young people who have seen a need and worked to meet it
Each person in LYON LEADS will develop a plan to learn more about a need in the world and work to meet that need as a way of doing God’s work with our hands.
The optional follow-up gatherings will include:
- Sharing updates on the plan developed at the retreat
- Worshipping
- Catching up and having fun with each other
